Early childhood development is a vitally important issue. The Seamus the Sheltie children's books can make it far less stressful and . . . fun.

WRITTEN BY CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST JAMES BEVERLY

As a child psychologist I wrote the Seamus the Sheltie children's books specifically to help you with those difficult tasks in a safe and fun way (no witchcraft or magic at all). Remembering the animal tales that were told to me by my grandfather, I decided to use simple, real life stories in books for children to help parents introduce important subjects in a safe way that was also fun and enjoyable. I had plenty of material for kids books, thanks to the exploits of my Sheltie, Seamus. Using my education in clinical child psychology I used clever and humorous ways to address for children the morals that accompany each story.

TEACHING KIDS USING REAL LIFE EXAMPLES

The Seamus the Sheltie story books are about my real dog. The majority of the adventures in these books are based on actual events in his life. Seamus, a Shetland Sheepdog, is an incredibly intelligent dog who can understand about 85 human words. His name (pronounced “shay-mus”) is Scottish and means “Little James.”

To make the Seamus stories more fun to read, I developed a language for the dog that was derived from the canine physical makeup, the intelligence and language of a young child, and a large dose of humorous imagination. The way that Seamus speaks in these stories is primarily based on two causes: his actual physical structure and his mental limitations. I believe that these physical and mental limitations would be true for all dogs. Where Seamus would excel compared to the other dogs would be his very high intellect and the exceptional ability of his breed to follow human voice commands Seamus brings a new and entertaining context to life lessons that make them fresh and engaging for the readers of all ages.

MORALS, ETHICS AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT MADE EASY

As a child psychologist I realized I could use his innocence and gentleness to teach valuable life lessons to young children in a fun way. Humor is a key ingredient, and a happy ending to each story underscores the important moral or basic value relevant to each story in this book, setting the stage for wonderful discussions with a child. After the completion of a chapter, a quick flip to the appendix provides a great place to start to discuss the story with children.

Reading and discussing these stories with your child will help form wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Heartwarming and educational, readers agree that the Seamus the Sheltie books are enjoyable and fun for the entire family.
